SIAMS INSPECTION
As a church school, we are committed to nurturing both the academic and spiritual development of our students. One of the key ways we ensure that our school meets the highest standards in these areas is through the SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) inspection. SIAMS inspections play a vital role in assessing the effectiveness of our school’s Christian character, the quality of spiritual, moral, social, and cultural education, and our commitment to developing the whole child.
What is SIAMS?
SIAMS is a national framework for inspecting Anglican and Methodist schools, focused on evaluating how well a school’s Christian ethos is integrated into all aspects of school life. The inspection assesses whether the school’s religious character influences the whole school community, including staff, students, and parents, and whether it provides a distinctive and inclusive Christian education.
One of the key components of the SIAMS inspection is the evaluation of the 6 IQs—a set of seven criteria that guide how effectively a church school integrates its Christian values into its curriculum and daily life.
IQ1: How does the school’s theologically rooted Christian vision enable pupils and adults to flourish?
IQ2: How does the curriculum reflect the school’s theologically rooted Christian vision?
IQ3: How is collective worship enabling pupils and adults to flourish spiritually?
IQ4: How does the school’s theologically rooted Christian vision create a culture in which pupils and adults are treated well?
IQ5: How does the school’s theologically rooted Christian vision create an active culture of justice and responsibility?
IQ6: Is the religious education curriculum effective (with reference to the expectations set out in the Church of England’s Statement of Entitlement for Religious Education)?
Why a Church School Needs to Be Inspected
As a church school, our Christian ethos and values are at the heart of everything we do. SIAMS inspections are essential for ensuring that this ethos is not just a set of ideals but is actively lived out in practice. The inspection process helps us to evaluate our effectiveness in fulfilling our mission to provide high-quality education that is grounded in Christian faith and values.
